The Daily S.E.T. Brought to you today by Jesse.
“Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires that war against you. Conduct yourselves honorably among the Gentiles, so that in a case where they speak against you as those who do what is evil, they will, by observing your good works, glorify God on the day of visitation. Submit to every human authority because of the Lord, whether to the Emperor as the supreme authority or to governors as those sent out by him to punish those who do what is evil and to praise those who do what is good. For it is God’s will that you silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good. As God’s slaves, live as free people, but don’t use your freedom as a way to conceal evil. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the Emperor.”
1 Peter 2:11-17 HCSB
I’m always in need of a reminder of how to conduct myself in this world. We as “passers through” or “temporary residents” must be conscious of the effect of our witness on this world. The actions this world sees us do will be our greatest tool in the process of witnessing. Gods word says by “doing good” we silence the ignorance of foolish people. By contrast, by not “doing good” we fuel the ignorance.
Father God, I ask for forgiveness for the times my actions fuel the ignorance of foolish men.
Lord, help me to be hyper-sensitive to my witness in this world. Help me to seize every opportunity to “do good” so the you would be honored by my actions. Please help me take a submissive stance with all those you put in authority over me so that by example others would see a reflection of you in me. Let my actions be those of a man you would label “honorable” and may you be glorified in every action.
