“My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:2-4
James is one of my favorite books in the Bible to read! This is one of my favorite passages. This passage give rhyme and reason to all the challenges we have and will face in our life.
From reading the Bible we see that God has certain attributes. We know that Jesus is God as well so He has the same attributes/character as God.
The first chapter of James is very encouraging. Whenever I find myself facing a difficult time in my life, I remember these verses. I transform from a victim into a champion. I no longer look at what I am facing as something that will defeat me or drag me down but as a warrior who has the ability to emerge from whatever drama I am facing a little wiser and a little strong than when I started.
The next verses 5-8 are equally as important. “If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; , for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”
These verses basically say that God has our back. We can face anything because the One who has all wisdom and is not in the least bit surprised

By what is going on in your life has the answers for you. He has everything under control and can lead you through whatever you are facing.
I say “can” because you have to let Him. You have to seek Him and His answers and believe (have faith) in Him.
David when facing Goliath had faith in God. So much so he couldn’t understand why the army was so afraid of the philistines. He knew God was all powerful. He knew with God’s help he (David) could take down this giant. And if you remember the story it wasn’t a huge catapult or some other large piece of machinery that God had David use to defeat Goliath bit a small stone used in a simple sling shot.
My challenge to us today is for us to remember to turn to God when we face challenges. To remember that we are set up for success from the beginning. For us to remember our success may not be in the form of winning a fight but in the form of our development in maturity. Maturity that brings us closer to being more Christ-like.
Father, You are all knowing, you have no limitations, you are absolutely unchanging, you are holy, righteous, and sovereign, you are pure love, just, and merciful.

I thank you for calling me to be your child and rescuing me from the pit you found me in. I thank you for being committed in developing me. I long to model your Son. I strive to be like Him each and every day but I fall short each day. Thank you for you mercies as my failures seem to be so many.

I embrace the trials and temptations that will come my way. As I face these challenges please renew my mind when I start to become disheartened. Remind me that you are not only right beside me but within me. Help me to remember David and his faith in you as I face whatever giant is in my life. My prayer is that I will grow and change with every passing storm into a child that reflects my Savior with every action, word, and thought. Until that one day when I reach perfection and am home with You.
Amen
