1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple”
I am constantly speechless at God’s grace and mercy. God saw fit to not only rescue His children from death but to make each one a walking temple for His Spirit to dwell in.
God is holy. So much so that sin cannot be in His presence. This is a testimony to the work of the gospel. We know we all are sinners. By the death of God’s only Son we (sinners) are cleansed. So much so that the Spirit of the God can dwell in us.
To think that God has entrusted us with the blessing of being His temple. To be the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. His children are actually walking around with God inside them. What an absolute honor.
To be honest I am much more aware of my actions when these verses are at the front of my mind. I make better choices when I remember I am a temple. I chose more nutritious foods, I exercise, I am cautious with what I let myself see and hear. I engage the people around me with a glad spirit and a heart of love. I am more understanding and I easily forgive. I could add so many more things I pay attention to more closely.
This world has the ability to steal so many things from us if we are not careful. Our focus is one of them. I challenge us to remind ourselves each and every morning and throughout our day that we are God’s temple. That we are out among the world representing The One True God. That our thoughts and actions represent who’s we are.
When I let this slip my mind, I call it my identity crisis. Sometimes I look at my day and wonder who that person was that lived it. When I keep these scriptures at the front of my mind I know exactly who I am and Who’s I am.
Father, lead me in your ways, teach me how to protect my mind from letting it go astray from your ways. Lord set a fire within me for Your Word. Draw me close to you. Clothe me in strength and perseverance. May I wear your armor daily. May I remember I am Your temple and may I always strive to build Your temple and not my own. Teach me how to love people in ways I have never imagined and to honor you as I do.
Amen
